About the Artist
I have always believed that art has the power to change the way we see the world.
My company, Artful Mermaid, was coined after moving to Hawaiʻi in 1980, where I became mesmerised by the allure of the sea, the vivid tropical flowers, waterfalls, and a slice of paradise in a place out of time.
Nature has been my greatest teacher. Every flower, wave, feather, shell, wing, and stone carries its own quiet wisdom. Through jewelry, painting, and design, my hope is to capture a small part of that wisdom and turn it into something you can live with, wear, and return to throughout your life.
I blend traditional and contemporary mediums to create art that speaks to the things I treasure, and that carries the spirit of Hawaiʻi and beyond into places of fantasy and imagination.
Every creation begins with intention. Every collection tells a story. Every detail has meaning. Beauty draws us in, but meaning is what lets a piece become part of a life — so a design should invite your own interpretation while carrying a clear emotional truth.
My signature jewelry collection, Lorayne Designs, are wearable icons, truth tokens and memory keepers. My work also spans hand-painted flag strings and banners, and original paintings — all rooted in the ocean, the islands, and the natural forms that surround me here in Hawaiʻi. Each design is my own, developed detail by detail and then carefully brought to life through a trusted creative partnership with master craftsmen in Bali.
May these creations continue to uplift and inspire you.
Aloha, Lorayne
Meaning before decoration. Every millimeter is intentional.
